Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best than her stage name, Queen Latifah. Her work as Queen Latifah in film, television as well as music has earned her several accolades. Queen Latifah, the daughter of an Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. The couple divorced when Latifah was just 10 years old. Latifah was born and raised in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic schools in Newark. When she was 8 Her cousin gifted Latifah the name of a stage Latifah which translates to gentle and loving in Arabic. Latifah has always been tall and tall. Standing 5'10" and was the power forward of her high-school basketball team. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz during a play at her highschool.
